Jay Paterno leaving

Jay Paterno is leaving Penn State's coaching staff after spending 17 years as an assistant under his father, Hall of Fame coach Joe Paterno. Jay Paterno worked the last 12 seasons as the quarterbacks coach. His departure was expected after the school last week named New England Patriots offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien to succeed JoePa.

Baylor's Griffin to NFL?

A person familiar with the decision says Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III has decided to enter the NFL draft. Griffin is projected to be one of the top picks in April. Griffin and Stanford's Andrew Luck are likely to be the first two quarterbacks picked.

Providence stuns Louisville

Bryce Cotton and Kadeem Batts each scored 27 points and the Providence basketball team made Louisville coach Rick Pitino's night miserable on a day the school honored his 1987 squad, beating the No. 14 Cardinals, 90-59.

76ers rout Kings

Elton Brand had 21 points and 10 rebounds, and the host Philadelphia 76ers routed the Sacramento Kings, 112-85, for their sixth straight win . . . Chandler Parsons scored 20 points and the visiting Houston Rockets beat the Charlotte Bobcats, 82-70, to snap a four-game skid . . . Rashard Lewis and Nick Young each had 15 points to lead the host Washington Wizards to their first win after eight straight losses, a 93-78 win over the Toronto Raptors . . .
