NBAJames gets 31, Curry plays as Heat beats Lakers
LeBron James shook off flu-like symptoms to record 31 points, eight rebounds and eight assists as the Heat beat the Lakers, 98-87, in Miami. Former Knick Eddy Curry, in his first NBA action since December 2009, had six points and three rebounds in six minutes for the Heat. Curry said earlier in the day that he lost about 65 pounds to get ready for his comeback, more than half of that since the start of Heat training camp in December. "He gave us good minutes, good energy," Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said. "He's done a lot to get to this point. We're all very proud of him."
Pau Gasol scored 26 points, Kobe Bryant had 24 and Andrew Bynum added 15 points and 12 rebounds for the Lakers.
James gave Lakers coach Mike Brown, his former coach with the Cavaliers, a long embrace before the game. "I had a great time coaching LeBron," Brown said. "I wouldn't be in this suit if it wasn't for him."
Bruins beat Devils for third time in three games
Nathan Horton and Gregory Campbell scored in a 35-second span in a four-goal third period that carried the visiting Bruins to a 4-1 victory over the Devils. The Bruins beat New Jersey for the third time in three games.GOLF
Toms, Villegas lead; Mickelson shoots 74
David Toms and Camilo Villegas shot 9-under 63s to top a leaderboard dotted with impressive scores in the opening round of the Humana Challenge in La Quinta, Ca. Villegas and Toms played bogey-free golf at the erstwhile Bob Hope Classic, which acquired a new title sponsor and dropped one day of its traditional five-round format this year. Toms shook off an unimpressive start to his season in Hawaii with excellent play alongside Phil Mickelson at the La Quinta Country Club, which features the tournament's toughest course. Mickelson struggled to a 74. Greg Norman shot a 72.
