Scott's 6-under 66 ties for lead at Doral

Adam Scott dealt with the wind by keeping the ball in play Thursday, shooting a 6-under-par 66 to tie for the first-round lead with Jason Dufner at the Cadillac Championship in Doral, Fla.

Dufner didn't make a bogey on his back nine and birdied the last hole on the TPC Blue Monster to catch Scott. Rory McIlroy, in his first tournament as the world's No. 1 player, had a 73. Tiger Woods made a tap-in eagle on his opening hole but struggled the rest of the way for a 72.

The trick on a windy day at Doral was not to drop too many shots. Sergio Garcia was one shot out of the lead after 12 holes. He played the last six in 8 over par, hitting two balls in the water for a triple-bogey on the 18th.

COLLEGE BASKETBALLReport: Feds probe alleged point-shaving

Federal authorities are investigating suspended Auburn point guard Varez Ward for alleged point shaving in at least two games this season, Yahoo! Sports reported. It cited anonymous sources and said the FBI began an investigation in late February centering on losses to Alabama on Feb. 7 and Arkansas on Jan. 25.

Ward and guard Chris Denson were suspended before a Feb. 25 game against Arkansas, but Denson returned for the next game. Denson was questioned and cleared of involvement in point shaving, the report said.

"Auburn officials were made aware of a rumor regarding an allegation two weeks ago and immediately reported it to the FBI, the NCAA and SEC," the school said in a statement. "Because of the nature of the allegation, Auburn is not in a position to make any further comment."

Ward has averaged 9.0 points a game and leads the Tigers in assists. He had three points and six turnovers in 17 minutes in the 68-50 loss to Alabama. Vegas Insider said Alabama was favored by five points.

Rams: Williams aiding in bounty investigation

The Rams said defensive coordinator Gregg Williams continues to cooperate in the league's investigation into the bounty system used by the Saints. In a statement, the Rams said Williams "has shown contrition for his actions" and declined further comment. He is expected to receive a severe penalty from commissioner Roger Goodell after admitting he ran a bounty pool of up to $50,000 during the past three seasons, when he was the Saints' defensive coordinator.
