A spokesman for Penn State president Rodney Erickson says the university faced a potential four-year ban on playing football before the NCAA issued its punishment for how the school handled the Jerry Sandusky child molestation scandal. NHLPA executive director Donald Fehr said that his committee is still working "on the economics of what the commissioner had called their initial proposal," which seeks a reduction in the players' share of hockey-related revenues from 57 percent to 46, raises the years required for free agency and eliminates salary arbitration, among other elements. "We requested a fair amount of background information. They've indicated that they're compiling that." The discussions continue Thursday and then next week in New York.
