51-year term in Adenhart death

A construction worker who was on probation for felony drunken driving when he ran a red light and killed rookie Los Angeles Angels pitcher Nick Adenhart and two other people was sentenced to 51 years to life in prison.

A judge in Santa Ana, Calif,. sentenced Andrew Gallo, 24, amid sobbing from the victims' family and friends who earlier heard him apologize for the 2009 crash. Prosecutors said Gallo's blood-alcohol level was nearly three times the legal limit when he blew through a red light at an Orange County intersection on April 9, 2009, and T-boned the car carrying Adenhart and three friends. Also killed in the crash were 20-year-old Courtney Stewart and 25-year-old Henry Pearson.

BASEBALLCrawford pays for Rays' BBQ

Carl Crawford has left Tampa Bay for Boston, but he hasn't forgotten a group of people who helped make his nine seasons with the Rays a success. The four-time All-Star, who agreed to a seven-year, $142 million deal with the Red Sox this month, picked up the tab Wednesday for lunch at Tropicana Field, where about 150 Rays employees feasted on a barbecue meal paid for by the Gold Glove leftfielder. Crawford didn't attend the lunch.

Orange suspend two for Pinstripe

Syracuse has suspended defensive tackle Andrew Lewis and linebacker Brice Hawkes for next week's Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium for violating team rules. Coach Doug Marrone announced the suspensions but declined to elaborate. A defensive tackle and two-year starter, Lewis had 28 tackles, including 4 1/2 for loss, one sack and one forced fumble. The suspension effectively ends his Syracuse career. Hawkes, a linebacker, played in 11 of 12 games, primarily on special teams.

Kris Joseph had a career-high 25 points, Scoop Jardine added 21 and Rick Jackson had his ninth double-double of the season as No. 5 Syracuse remained unbeaten with a 93-65 victory over Drexel. Syracuse (13-0) begins Big East play on Tuesday at home against Providence. - AP
