Devan Downey scored 30 points and host South Carolina (12-8, 3-3 SEC) sent No. 1 Kentucky to its first loss of the season, 68-62, last night. Kentucky (19-1, 4-1) had moved atop the rankings this week for the first time since 2003 . . . Kalin Lucas made a go-ahead jumper with 3.5 seconds left, lifting visiting No. 5 Michigan State (18-3, 8-0 Big Ten) to a 57-56 win over Michigan (10-10, 3-5) . . . Maya Moore had 19 points and 10 rebounds to help No. 1 Connecticut (20-0, 7-0 Big East) win its 59th straight game, 73-36, over Rutgers (12-8, 4-2) . . . Christine Huber, formerly of St. John the Baptist High, transferred from Rutgers to Northeastern.

CBS willing to air more Super Bowl advocacy ads

CBS responded to Monday's complaints over a conservative group's planned Super Bowl ad featuring Tim Tebow by saying that it had eased restrictions on advocacy ads and would consider "responsibly produced" ones for open spots in its Feb. 7 broadcast. CBS says it has received both critical and supportive e-mails since women's groups began a protest campaign against the ad.
