RUNNING
Kenyan's feet amputated
An All-American distance runner who spent more than two days in Alaska's freezing winter temperatures without winter gear has had his feet amputated. Marko Cheseto, 28, is one of several Kenyan runners who competed for the University of Alaska Anchorage in cross-country and track. The amputations were reported Monday on the UAA Athletic Department website. UAA officials said Cheseto's hands are expected to make a full recovery but his lower extremities were severely injured.

Ferrer upsets Murray
David Ferrer, seeded seventh, pulled off the first upset of the ATP World Tour Finals in London with a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Andy Murray, whose groin injury might force him to quit the season-ending tournament.

Stony Brook women lose
George Mason overcame a 16-point deficit, took the lead with 1:41 remaining and defeated Stony Brook, 54-50, in women's basketball at Pritchard Gymnasium. Taleia Morton had 18 points for George Mason (3-1), which ended the game with a 26-6 run. Dani Klupenger was 5-for-10 from three-point range and had 16 for SBU (0-3).
Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis scored 25 points and Bria Hartley added 19 as No. 2 Connecticut (3-0) beat No. 3 Stanford, 68-58, in Hartford. Nnemkadi Ogwumike scored 22 points for the Cardinal (3-1).
Adu unprotected in draft
Philadelphia forward Freddy Adu, San Jose All-Star defender Bobby Convey and Houston forward Brian Ching are among the players left unprotected in Major League Soccer's expansion draft for the Montreal Impact Wednesday. Toronto's Julian de Guzman, Houston's Carlo Costly and the Red Bulls' John Rooney -- the brother of Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney -- also were unprotected. -- AP
