Overton leads Palmer at Byron Nelson
Jeff Overton shot a bogey-free 6-under 64 to take the first-round lead at the Byron Nelson Championship in Irving, Texas, a stroke better than Ryan Palmer. Sergio Garcia, who withdrew from a British Open qualifier earlier this week and didn't even play a practice round because of an infected fingernail on his left hand, was in a group of nine players at 66 at the TPC Four Seasons.
Donald takes lead at European PGA
Luke Donald shot a 7-under 64 to close in on the top ranking after a rainy, incomplete first round of the BMW PGA Championship, leading No. 1 Lee Westwood by eight strokes. Donald mastered the wet and windy conditions at the West Course in Wentworth near London.
Murota's 66 leads Senior PGA
Japan's Kiyoshi Murota surprised even himself by shooting a 6-under 66 to overshadow stars such as Mark O'Meara and Tom Watson and grab the first-round lead in the weather-plagued Senior PGA Championship at the Valhalla Golf Club outside Louisville.

Fan dies after fall at Rockies game
Authorities say 27-year-old Robert Seamans of Pueblo, Colo., has died after he fell while sliding down a stair railing at the Colorado Rockies' stadium in Denver on Tuesday. Police spokesman Sonny Jackson says the man fell about 20 feet onto concrete during the seventh inning of the opener of a doubleheader.

Bolt returns and wins 100 meters
World record-holder Usain Bolt needed a late kick to win his first race in nine months, capturing the 100 meters in 9.91 seconds to edge former record-holder Asafa Powell at the Golden Gala in Rome. Powell was timed in 9.93 and European champion Christophe Lemaitre finished third in 10.00.

SBU's Crowley an All-American
Stony Brook midfielder Kevin Crowley has been named a first-team All-American by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) for the second straight year. Stony Brook attack Jordan McBride was named to the third team and faceoff specialist Adam Rand received honorable-mention status. Hofstra attack Jay Card, defenseman Mike Skudin, goalie Andrew Gvozden and faceoff specialist John Antoniades also were honorable-mention selections.
