Panthers win longest shootout

Nick Bjugstad scored the winning goal in the longest shootout in NHL history to lift the host Florida Panthers over the Washington Capitals, 2-1, last night.

Bjugstad's goal came in the 20th round -- on the 40th shot of the shootout. The previous record was 15 rounds, when the Rangers beat the Caps on Nov. 26, 2005.

The Panthers outscored the Capitals 6-5 in the tiebreaker; the six goals were the most ever in a shootout. Jussi Jokinen, Dave Bolland, Derek MacKenzie, Sean Bergenheim and Dylan Olsen also were successful for Florida.

Alex Ovechkin, Brooks Laich, Joel Ward, John Carlson and Brooks Orpik had shootout goals for the Capitals.

Lightning bolts over Flyers

Steven Stamkos and Tyler Johnson scored second-period goals to lead visiting Tampa Bay to a 3-1 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers.

Golden State's streak snapped

Marc Gasol scored 24 points, and the host Memphis Grizzlies snapped the Warriors' NBA-best 16-game winning streak with a 105-98 victory.

Mike Conley and Zach Randolph each scored 17 points as Memphis earned its fifth straight win.

The Warriors came in with the NBA's best record at 21-2. They lost for the first time since Nov. 11 against the Spurs, also the last team to beat Memphis.

A person with knowledge of the situation said Milwaukee Bucks rookie Jabari Parker will miss the rest of the season with a left ACL injury.

Red Bulls' Henry retires

The Red Bulls' Thierry Henry, the former Arsenal and France striker, announced his retirement, ending a 20-year career. Henry, 37, was a member of the France teams that won the 1998 World Cup and 2000 European Championship.

The Washington Redskins placed quarterback Colt McCoy on injured reserve with a sprained neck . . . Keenan Allen, the San Diego Chargers' leading receiver, has a broken right collarbone. -- AP
