Wings, Leafs to play at Michigan Stadium

The Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs will began 2013 by renewing their rivalry at one of North America's most iconic stadiums. The Original Six foes will play in the Winter Classic Jan. 1 at Michigan Stadium.

Toronto will become the first Canadian team to play in the Winter Classic when the Maple Leafs and Red Wings face off in Ann Arbor, about 45 miles west of Detroit. "It's Hockeytown versus the center of the hockey universe," Toronto general manager Brian Burke said.

The NHL announced its plan, which includes minor league and college hockey games, at a news conference yesterday at Comerica. Later, there was an additional event for media on the field at Michigan Stadium, the football venue that also hosted a college hockey game in 2010 between Michigan and Michigan State. That game set a Guinness World Record for most fans at a hockey game with 104,173. -- APMEDIA

Lorenz arrested for driving under the influence

Emmy Award-winning Yankees TV host Bob Lorenz was arrested and charged with driving under the influence early Wednesday morning after police say he was found slumped over the wheel of a vehicle stopped at an intersection in Westport, Conn.

Lorenz hosts Yankees and Nets pregame and postgame shows on the YES Network, which houses its studio operations in Stamford, Conn.

Police said they found Lorenz, 48, in the driver's seat, unresponsive, with the vehicle's engine idling with the transmission in drive. Lorenz awoke and accelerated slowly through the intersection while officers ran alongside the vehicle yelling for him to stop, which he did. He failed subsequent field sobriety tests, police added.

Lorenz was unable to post bond and was brought to Norwalk Superior Court for arraignment.
