GOLFLanger wins in Scotland
Bernhard Langer won his first major senior title Sunday, holding off a final-round challenge from Corey Pavin for a one-stroke win in the Senior British Open at Carnoustie, Scotland. The German shot 1-over-par 72 to finish at 5-under 279. Pavin ended with a 1-under 70.
Pettersson Canada winner
Carl Pettersson rallied to win the Canadian Open in Toronto for his fourth PGA Tour victory, following his tournament-record, 10-under 60 with a 67 for a one-stroke win over Dean Wilson. Wilson, playing on a sponsor exemption, shot 72 after opening with three 65s.
Shin victor in France
Jiyai Shin of South Korea birdied the 18th hole to win the Evian Masters in Evian-les-Bains, France, shooting a 5-under 67 to finish one stroke ahead of Morgan Pressel, Na Yeon Choi and Alexis Thompson. Third-round leader Pressel's putt on 18 to force a playoff rolled over the lip.
TENNISFish tops Isner
Mardy Fish won his second straight tournament, beating John Isner, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4), in the final of the Atlanta Tennis Championships. With temperatures in the mid-90s, the match lasted 2 hours, 45 minutes. The on-court temperature hovered near 150 degrees.
NFLMannings donate $1M
Giants quarterback Eli Manning and his wife, Abby, have given $1 million to a needs-based academic scholarship program at the University of Mississippi, their alma mater. The Mannings have a home in Oxford.
