The bridge over Pussy’s Pond — a popular nature preserve in the Springs community in East Hampton — will be rebuilt this summer by the East Hampton Trails Preservation Society, using black locust trees that are growing around the pond.

The decaying bridge was torn down three years ago.

The town board determined last week that a substantial number of black locusts are growing around the pond, and would be suitable for use as bridge supports. The town noted that those trees are a nonnative species.
