Springs school to use town-owned building
East Hampton officials have reached an agreement with the Springs school district under which the town will lease a town-owned recreation building to the district for $2,000 a month.
Under the arrangement, the town will control use of the building, which is next to the school, during the evenings. The town board reached the agreement at a work session Friday.
A vote on the proposal was postponed two weeks ago because of board concerns about who would have the right to determine the building’s use.
School officials said their primary interest is use of the building from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. weekdays, when the school needs extra space. But the district also expressed interest in using the building during evenings. The Girl Scouts and other community groups now use it during evenings.
The town board agreed to give the district priority for a half-dozen evenings for parent-teacher conferences in the building. The town’s human resources department will be responsible for scheduling other events there.
Officials said the $2,000-a-month lease will cover the costs associated with use of the building.
