Squirrel in a hawk's talons was too much

I recently sat down with my cup of coffee and my copy of Newsday, as I do every morning. Unfortunately, I opened my paper to a see a picture that upset me to the point that I felt it necessary to write ["On the hunt, on Long Island,'' Jan. 7].

I have lived on Long Island for the past 45 of my 76 years, and know that there are beautiful scenes all over this beautiful Island. While I am not the world's biggest squirrel fan, I am an animal lover. I understand the picture that you printed does demonstrate nature's circle of life. However, I don't think that it is necessary for me to observe the look of terror on a squirrel's face as he becomes part of that circle.

Few things in my life have upset me to the point that I felt it necessary to express my opinion in this way, but this image was definitely one of them!
