St. Anthony's built a big lead early on and held on to beat St. John the Baptist, 52-39, at home this afternoon in a battle of two of the top teams on Long Island. The Friars opened the game with a 19-3 spurt and led 38-15 at the half. The Cougars had just three field goals in the first half.

The Friars (3-1, 1-1) scored just four points in the third quarter, but limited the Cougars to just four points. Symone Kelly had 15 points and 12 rebounds, Rebecca Musgrove had 13 points, nine assists and seven rebounds, and Kerrin Maurer added 10 points.

Alexis Smith led SJB (3-1, 1-1) with 12 of her 14 in the second half.
