Aftter being the underdog and aiming for the top spot in the CHSAA, St. Anthony's is now the hunted after winning the league title for the first time since 1988 last season. So far, the Friars are handling it well.
St. Anthony's defeated St. John the Baptist, 66-39, in a league matchup this evening. Symone Kelly had 16 points and 10 rebounds, Rebecca Musgrove had 10 points and six assists, and Chastitiy Taylor added six points and 10 rebounds for the Friars (3-0, 2-0).
Brianna Thomas led SJB (2-4, 1-2) with 22 points. Anastasia Williams missed her third consecutive game with an injury and there is no timetable for her return. The Friars were without Kimani Jackson, who is out for the season with a torn MCL.
The Friars were in control from the beginning. They opened up a 14-1 lead and SJB didn't get a field goal until there were 58 seconds left in the first quarter when Lauren Williams scored on a three-point play to make it 14-4. Williams, who played at St. Anthony's last season, was held to three points and fouled out with 4:49 left in the third quarter. Kelly had 10 of her points in a 35-14 first half.
