St. John's women draw imposing Card
The ninth-seeded St. John's women's basketball team is fully aware of the daunting task ahead at Stanford's imposing on-campus arena Monday night. The top-seeded Cardinal is riding a school-record 62-game home winning streak.
"They're probably the most talented team in the country," St. John's coach Kim Barnes Arico said. "They can do everything. That's why they have a 62-game winning streak at home. They're a tremendous program and it's going to be a difficult task for our team, but it's one we're excited to have."
The Red Storm has played its share of big games in tough places, perhaps most notably at Florida State in the second round of the 2010 NCAA Tournament. Da'Shena Stevens' last-second shot fell short in a heartbreaking 66-65 overtime loss to the host Seminoles.
Stanford has won 24 straight overall. Earlier this season, the Cardinal knocked off then-No. 1 Connecticut to end the Huskies' winning streak at a record 90 games.
