Nassau County police said the crash occurred at 5:03 a.m. between Shelter Rock Road, Exit 35, and Searingtown Road, Exit 36, in North Hills. The LIE was reopened around 10:40 a.m. after being closed for much of the morning commute at Exit 34. Eastbound traffic was backed up as far as Queens.

The crash comes a day after a New York City police officer headed home from work was killed by a wrong-way drunken driver on the Northern State Parkway, police said.
