State DEC officials to meet with Kings Park residents
State Department of Environmental Conservation officials are scheduled to appear at Thursday’s meeting of the Kings Park Civic Association.
The DEC representatives are expected to discuss residents’ concerns about noise and other problems linked to industrial properties. The 7:30 p.m. meeting is set to take place at Kings Park High School, 200 Route 25A.
The civic group also will discuss its recent formation of a task force to monitor mining, composting and construction businesses in an industrial area at Old Northport and Lawrence roads. Residents complain the businesses are responsible for odors and truck traffic near their homes.
The DEC has fined some Kings Park industries for violating state environmental law, and the agency monitors several businesses under consent decrees stemming from past infractions.
The civic association also will discuss abandoned homes and the proposed Uplands at St. Johnland senior housing development. Many Kings Park residents opposed the project at a recent Smithtown Town Board meeting.
