State Senate primary candidates to face off in debate
Two Democratic candidates heading into a primary next month for a state Senate seat will face off at a debate hosted by the League of Women Voters of the Hamptons next week.
Bridget Fleming, an attorney and Southampton Town board member, and Jennifer Maertz, an insurance litigation attorney, are scheduled to debate at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Southampton’s Rogers Memorial Library at 91 Coopers Farm Road.
Another debate is planned for 7 p.m. Thursday at the Rocky Point VFW on Main Street/Route 25A.
At the Southampton debate, the two candidates are expected to answer questions from a panel and the audience, according to the league. The primary is Sept. 13.
The winner of the primary will face Republican Kenneth P. LaValle (R-Port Jefferson) in the general election.
