Stewart Manor rewards staff snow efforts

The Village of Stewart Manor trustees on Tuesday voted unanimously in favor of granting an extra vacation day to the village’s five Department of Public Works employees. The workers were rewarded for the job they did during the recent inclement weather.

The board of trustees also unanimously voted to approve a bid to restore the façade of Village Hall. New Hyde Park’s Persi Contracting bid $12,700 for the project, which will fix the hall’s portico and front door. Village Clerk Rosemarie Biehayn said the leaky overhang resulted in water damage to a light fixture in the entryway, and the hall’s door has outlived its effectiveness.

The board was also in complete agreement on a 3 percent salary increase for a Four Village Studio employee.

The studio is a public access television station funded by Bellerose, Floral Park, South Floral Park and Stewart Manor villages. The funds come from a portion of each of the villages’ franchise fees paid by Verizon and Cablevision, which owns Newsday.

Biehayn said the salary increase would come from Four Village’s existing funds and has no bearing on the village budget.
