Qwan’tez Stiggers made his preseason debut less than three weeks after he left the Jets’ practice facility in an ambulance. He passed out on the sideline during a joint practice with Tampa Bay and suffered a concussion.
On Friday, Stiggers was all over the field – good and bad – in the first quarter against the Giants.
The Jets’ cornerback batted a pass on the Giants’ first series that was intercepted by Marcellino McCrary-Ball. It was the Jets’ third pick in two preseason games after having none all of last season.
Stiggers came up with a takeaway on the next series. This time, McCrary-Ball knocked the football away from ex-Jet Braxton Berrios and Stiggers recovered it in the end zone for a touchback.
After a three-and-out, Stiggers made a big mistake in punt coverage. He ran into Berrios, who called a fair catch, and was flagged for a 15-yard penalty. The Giants scored a touchdown on that drive, one play after Stiggers allowed a 23-yard reception to Odell Beckham Jr.
