Stony Brook falls to BU, 67-62
Ahead by nine points early in the second half, visiting Stony Brook found itself stuck in the Holland tunnel in what became a 67-62 loss to Boston University .
After Bryan Dougher's layup gave the Seawolves a 46-37 lead with 13:57 left, John Holland scored 13 straight BU points in a span of 2:55 to spark a 19-3 run that gave the Terriers a 56-49 lead with 6:51 to play.
Dougher's three-pointer with 10 seconds left brought the Seawolves within three, but Holland (29 points) sank two free throws with seven seconds left to clinch it. "We played hard tonight, but we didn't have an answer for John Holland,'' Stony Brook coach Steve Pikiell said. "He got hot in the second half, and we tried four different defenders on him, but he still scored.''
Dallis Joyner had 15 points, Dave Coley 13, Dougher 12 and Anthony Jackson 10 for the Seawolves, who shot 7-for-25 in the second half. It was the fourth loss in five games for Stony Brook (7-11, 2-4 America East). BU is 9-11, 4-2.
Holland, who entered as the conference's leading scorer at 19.1 points per game, was 5-for-9 from three-point range and hit three treys in his personal 13-point run. D.J. Irving added 13.
