Stony Brook University is handing out 5,734 students degrees Friday at its commencement ceremony.

They include:
3,635 bachelor’s degrees
1,352 master’s degrees
473 doctoral degrees
113 MDs
161 certificates

U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer, above, will be the keynote speaker.

Among the graduates will be a group of journalism students who dedicated the past few months to a final project -- a local news site covering nearby Port Jefferson called SBU Reports. The site chronicles Port Jeff’s “people, its problems and its plans for the future“ through written and multimedia stories.

Congratulations to all.
