GARDEN CITY
Gay PTA meeting. The inaugural meeting of the Long Island Gay Parent Teacher Association will take place  at 7 p.m. Wednesday at The Center at Garden City, 400 Garden City Plaza, Suite 110. The first-in-the-nation program aims to bring together parents and educators to make schools safer for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender  students. BROOKHAVEN
Town budget discussion. The Brookhaven Town board will hold a work session at 1 p.m. Thursday in Town Hall, 1 Independence Hill, Farmingville. The 2012 proposed budget, which will have a public hearing on Nov. 10, will be a topic of discussion. Check Patrick Whittle’s Twitter updates @pxwhittle.

Local elections. Local elections across Long Island will be  Tuesday, with polls opening at 6 a.m. At stake is the Suffolk County executive position as well as every seat in Nassau and Suffolk legislatures, and numerous town supervisor positions and town board seats, among others.
