Storm prep meeting for Great Neck residents
In the wake of Tropical Storm Irene, the Kings Point Civic Association is sponsoring an event for all Great Neck peninsula residents about how to prepare, cope and recover from a big storm.
The meeting will be from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the auditorium at the Saddle Rock School, at 10 Hawthorne Lane in Great Neck.
Village officials, police and clergy have been invited, as well as representatives from LIPA and Cablevision, organizer Marsha Rotman said.
“My motivation isn’t to point fingers,” Rotman said. “It’s to get people to help themselves in terms of preparation.”
Hurricane season continues through November.
“My feeling is we’re going to get worse” weather, Rotman said. “I think there’s a lot of things people can do to help themselves.”
When to evacuate, shelter locations, tree trimming and how the community can help residents will be among the topics discussed.
