Storm to affect number of summer vistors to Lido Beach

Even with plans to truck in sand, Lido Beach's waterfront recreation area won't be able to accommodate its usual number of summer visitors in the wake of this week's storm, the Hempstead Town supervisor said.
Supervisor Kate Murray said the beach was "all but devastated" and likely lost hundreds of thousands of cubic yards. Town officials are seeking federal aid, she said.
Murray said 200,000 people visited the beach last year, but "there's just no way" there will be room for that many visitors this summer.
She said a beach renewal project approved in November called for replenishing 200,000 cubic yards of sand. Now, she estimates nearly double that amount of sand will be required.
Town officials planned for some emergency replacement before the summer, but won't be able to repair all the damage.
