Student volunteers from the Three Village communities have helped prevent erosion to the Setauket wetlands by planting 350 plants with the Ward Melville Heritage Organization’s Youth Corps.

On Aug. 9, about 20 Youth Corps members planted the spartina alterniflora at the organization’s Erwin J. Ernst Marine Conservation Center in Setauket to prevent erosion in the area.

They also helped remove pepper weed, an invasive perennial that can threaten a variety of habitats.

The spartina planting is an annual event for the Youth Corps, a group of student volunteers from grades 6 to 12. For more information, call 631-751-2244.
