Suffolk County hosts event for homeless
Suffolk County will again hold an event to connect homeless people with free services.
The fourth annual “Stand Up for the Homeless” event at St. Joseph's College on Aug. 3 is open to homeless individuals and families, as well as those seeking to prevent homelessness.
Each person will be paired with a volunteer who will connect people to representatives from non-profits and government agencies at the event. Services include health and dental screenings, housing and shelter placement, employment opportunities, clothing, and public assistance counseling and advocacy.
Last year's event brought together more than 550 homeless people with 250 volunteers and more than 70 agencies.
The event will take place from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Transportation to and from the event will be supplied throughout the day from:
