The Suffolk County Police Department is offering a free course to teenage drivers on how to avoid crashes.

The 2 1/2-hour session will be held next week and will offer drivers guidance on how to avoid dangerous driving situations.

The course will be taught by Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) instructors and will consist of a short classroom lecture followed by a live demonstration on the EVOC track at 110 Old Country Rd. in Westhampton. Topics to be covered include vehicle dynamics, braking, cornering, acceleration and crash avoidance.

The course is open to drivers 16 to 19 and will take place Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 9-11:30 a.m. and 1-3:30 p.m., and on Friday from 1-3:30 p.m.
