Suffolk's right to untether canines
I was so happy to read about the proposed Suffolk County law to bar people from leaving their poor dogs tethered outside for hours at a time ["Cutting the cord for dogs," News, June 5]. Nassau County must also get on board!
It's hard to believe that there are those among us who actually think it is their right to mistreat their dogs. In addition, I hope that those who keep their dogs "crated" all day while they work would reconsider allowing their pets more freedom. A dog will never learn how to behave when its owners are away if it is never given the opportunity as it grows from puppyhood.
Let's hope that our society becomes more sensitive to animal cruelty of all kinds.
