Suffolk Top 10 (as of May 29)

Since all of this week's games are completed I wanted to get the rankings out early for the holiday weekend. Good luck to the teams heading to the county finals Thursday. I'll see you there.

1. Northport (16-2)
The Tigers easily defeated Middle Country then pounded on Floyd in the semifinals. They get the rematch they’ve wanted for a year, Bay Shore in the county finals. Northport won the regular season matchup 16-9 even though Shannon Gilroy was held in check. No doubt last’s year’s county final will be discussed on the bus ride to Dowling on Thursday.
2. Hauppauge (18-0)
The Eagles survived a scare from ESM on Tuesday, escaping 11-9 in OT. SWR awaits in the county finals. Hauppauge won the regular season tilt 12-7 but that was long before SWR found its stride.
3. Bay Shore (15-3)
The Marauders are 10-1 since losing to Northport on April 16. After defeating Floyd in the season finale to earn the No. 2 seed, Bay Shore had a tune up with Sachem East before a dominant performance against West Islip. The champs get to defend their title Thursday.
4. Floyd (14-4)
Slid past Ward Melville before getting routed by Northport. The Colonials limped their way into the postseason and it may have cost them a spot in the county finals.
5. West Islip (14-4)
Won a battle with HHH but were exposed defensively in the first half by Bay Shore in the semifinals.
6. Half Hollow Hills (13-5)
Lost an overtime game to West Islip 12-11 to close out the season. The Thundercolts have put everyone on notice; they are a team to be concerned about in the years to come.
7. Shoreham-Wading River (11-7)
Can you be a giant killer if you’re a 4-time defending state champion? The Wildcats were a pedestrian 2-4 in their six games before the playoffs but have knocked off No. 3 Rocky Point and No. 2 Sayville on the road. The magic carpet ride continues to a familiar destination: the county finals.
8. Sayville (15-3)
Dropped by SWR 13-12 at home in the semifinals. Credit the Golden Flashes for a strong season under extremely rare and unusual circumstances.
9 (tie). Mt. Sinai (11-4)
Has been idle since the end of the regular season. Will meet BBP in the Class C finals Thursday night under the lights. Mt. Sinai won 11-10 in the regular season.
9 (tie). Bayport-Blue Point (12-4)
Beat up on Glenn to advance to the C finals.
10. Eastport-South Manor (11-7)
Dene DiMartino had seven of ESM’s nine goals and Sam Giacolone stopped 16 Hauppauge shots but it still was not enough. A lot of credit to pushing the Eagles further than anyone thus far.
