Sun and clouds for Friday

After some violent thunderstorms moved through yesterday, dry conditions will return for Friday. Long Island will experience sunshine early on, mixed with more clouds in the afternoon.

There is an extremely slight chance of a spot shower during the afternoon as the upper level part of yesterdays frontal system will be moving through the area, but I expect the day to be dry.

High temperatures will be in the upper-60s on Friday, approaching 70 in many places. Winds will be southwest at 10-20 mph.

Any clouds on Friday night will eventually clear, and the weekend looks fantastic.

Extended outlook: Mostly Sunny skies for Saturday and Sunday, with highs in the low to mid-60s on Saturday, and mid to upper-60s on Sunday. Next chance of any precipitation will be next week.

1973 - The Mississippi River reached a crest of 43.4 feet, breaking the prevous record of 42 feet established in 1785.

1987 - A storm off the southeast coast of Massachusetts blanketed southern New England with heavy snow. Totals of three inches at Boston MA, 11 inches at Milton, Mass., and 17 inches at Worcester, Mass., were records for so late in the season. Princeton, Mass., was buried under 25 inches of snow.
