A man was critically injured when he lost control of his car Tuesday on Sunrise Higway in Valley Stream and struck an oncoming car, which then crashed into a third vehicle, Nassau police said.
The driver, 36, was going west shortly before 6:30 a.m. when his Nissan Altima veered across the grassy median and hit an eastbound Hyundai Elantra and that caused the second car to collide with a Nissan Pathfinder, police said.
All three were taken to the hospital, but the injuries of the other vehicles’ drivers, both women age 55, were not life-threatening, police said.
The first two vehicles were impounded for brake and safety checks, police said, while the Pathfinder was taken by a family member.
The crash closed Sunrise Highway between Hook Creek Boulevard in Rosedale and Green Acres Road in Valley Stream, and police said it was reopened at 11:12 a.m.
Homicide detectives said the investigation is ongoing. Police did not release the drivers’ names.
