Abundant sunshine will embrace Long Island for the next several days. Sunny skies and highs in the lower 40s is forecast through the weekend, with no precipitation in the near future.

This Day in Weather History:
1843 - A second great snowstorm hit the Northeast. The storm produced snow from Maine all the way to the Gulf of Mexico. Natchez, Miss., received three inches of snow, and up to 15 inches buried eastern Tennessee. Coastal Maine received 204 inches of snow that winter.
