SUNY Old Westbury announces polo match

SUNY Old Westbury has scheduled its annual fundraising polo match — featuring the presentation of the Theodore Roosevelt Preservation Award — for June 26 in fields just off campus.
The 10th annual event will benefit school academic and program enhancements. Previous fundraisers, using Meadowbrook Polo Club players, have combined to raise $200,000, officials said.
This year, the school will present Babylon Town Supervisor Steve Bellone with its Roosevelt award, which was created in 2004 to honor “individuals or organizations that are committed to conservation efforts and causes for future generations,” according to a statement from the university.
Marie Knapp, an attorney, will receive the Alumni Leadership Award, and Mariane Steelman, a Long Island Riding for the Handicapped Association instructor will be given the Ed Wrigley Horsemanship Award.
The polo match and lawn party will be from 2:30 to 6 p.m. at Hickox Field, off Whitney Lane just south of Route 25A in Old Westbury. Tickets are $95 per person, with children younger than 12 free. Tables may be purchased for $900, and tailgate space for $50 per vehicle.
