SAN FRANCISCO — Practice may have been non-contact for the Broncos on Monday, but the ride back to the hotel was anything but.

One of the team buses was involved in a minor accident on a freeway while transporting players from their first workout at Stanford Stadium. Broncos vice president of public relations Patrick Smyth wrote on Twitter that no one was injured in the incident and the team was back at the hotel. Pictures posted on social media by players and others indicate that a windshield of one of the buses was cracked. The accident took place in the southbound lanes of U.S. Route 101, according to The Associated Press.

“To keep the day interesting, we have a small wreck,” Broncos linebacker DeMarcus Ware wrote on Twitter along with a photo of players standing on the side of the road next to the temporarily disabled bus. “Looks like everyone is OK though.”

According to TMZ.com, the accident occurred when a car ahead of the caravan of buses (along with a police escort) stopped. The front bus came to a quick stop but the bus behind it had to swerve to avoid rear-ending the first one and hit a California Highway Patrol motorcycle. TMZ.com reported that Broncos trainers tended to the officer who was on the motorcycle. He was taken to a nearby hospital but is believed to have avoided any major injuries.
