Super Bowl LII: Josh McDaniels, Matt Patricia reluctant to talk about impending moves

MINNEAPOLIS — Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels and defensive coordinator Matt Patricia weren’t in the mood to discuss if this was their last game with the Patriots.

McDaniels is heavily rumored to take over as head coach of the Indianapolis Colts and Patricia is supposed to leave for the Detroit Lions.

However, after the 41-33 loss to the Eagles in Super Bowl LII on Sunday night, nobody wanted to talk about the future.

“I’m not going to talk about that tonight,” McDaniels snapped at reporters. “I’m not going to talk about that.”

Patricia was in a somber mood when asked if this was his last game with the Patriots.

“It’s bittersweet right now for the season, and that’s where my focus has been on, tonight and the guys,” Patricia said. “Teams change every year and players, but my first thoughts is to tell those guys I appreciate them and they worked really hard this year and we just came up a little short.”

There is a slight chance McDaniels might pull out of the running for the Colts’ job, which explains Patriots receiver Danny Amendola’s answer about losing his offensive coordinator.

“I don’t know if he is going to Indy or not,” Amendola said. “So if he is, they’re getting a great coach.”

If this is McDaniels’ last game, his offense produced a Super Bowl-record 613 yards of total offense and quarterback Tom Brady threw for 505 yards.

“He’s an amazing coach,” Amendola said. “He gets his players to play hard and he’s smart, creative. He makes work fun every day, so I love playing for him.”
