Suspicious package at Kennedy Airport leads to concourse evacuation

Concourse B in Terminal Four at Kennedy Airport was evacuated for about an hour Sunday afternoon after baggage screeners saw what appeared to be a suspicious package, the Port Authority reported.

The package, which prompted the 4:20 p.m. evacuation, turned out to be a tube of toothpaste with tape on it, Port Authority Spokesman Chris Valens said.

The NYPD bomb squad responded and the concourse was opened again to the public by 5:10 p.m.

Valens did not immediately how the incident impacted flights.

Concourse B has 11 gates and is separated by a security checkpoint from Concourse A. Both concourses serve a variety of international airlines, as well as JetBlue, Miami Air and Virgin America, according to a Port Authority map.
