Svendsen wins biathlon; Burke finishes 19th

(AP) — Emil Hegle Svendsen of Norway won his second straight biathlon World Cup race on Saturday, while Tim Burke of the United States had three misses to finish 19th.

Svendsen shot cleanly in the 15-kilometer sprint and finished in 39 minutes, 19.5 seconds. World Cup leader Evgeny Ustyugov of Russia trailed by 5.1 seconds. The Russian had one miss in four rounds through the shooting range. Simon Eder of Austria was third.

Burke lost more ground in the World Cup standings, dropping to fourth overall from third. He lost the overall lead Thursday when he finished 31st in a 10K sprint race.

Ustyugov leads the overall standings with 412 points. Svendsen moved up to second with 384.

In the women's 12.5K mass start, World Cup leader Helena Jonsson of Sweden was the only one to shoot cleanly among the top finishers and beat four Germans.

Jonsson needed 40:58.7 to cover the distance and left Simone Hauswald 23.1 seconds behind. Magdalena Neuner was third, 35 seconds behind after five missed targets.
