Syosset on track for Michelino title
With key wins over Bellmore-Merrick and Massapequa to open the final week of the regular season, Syosset controls its own destiny to win the Michelino Division in Nassau and clinch an automatic bid to the State Championships.
Syosset beat Bellmore-Merrick 4-1 Monday, and narrowly defeated Massapequa 5-4 Tuesday, to tie Long Beach for first place in the division with one game remaining. Syosset though, holds the tiebreak over Long Beach, earning a win and a tie in the two games the teams have played this season.
“We just want to win the division, then once we get to the playoffs we’ll be alright,” coach Richard Goldstein said prior to Monday’s win over Bellmore-Merrick.
Both Syosset and Long Beach face lower-end teams to close out the season, with Syosset taking on Jericho Friday night and Long Beach playing at Bethpage tonight.
Assuming both the Braves and Marines come out victorious, the playoff match-ups in the Michelino Division will look like this:
(4) Bellmore-Merrick v. (1) Syosset
(3) Massapequa v. (2) Long Beach
