T'Vondre Sweat plays it cool re: Week 1 opponent
T’Vondre Sweat smiled wide and then chuckled to himself when asked if he’s looking forward to Week 1.
The Jets open the season in Tennessee against the team that drafted Sweat in the second round in 2024 and then traded the 6-foot-4, 366-pound defensive tackle in the offseason for Jermaine Johnson.
“No,” Sweat said diplomatically. “I’m focused on Pittsburgh right now.”
He said he’s “in a happy place” now, but there’s no guarantee that Sweat will play in Friday’s preseason game at the Steelers.
Sweat missed the first 10 practices of training camp with a hamstring injury and has only gone through two. He didn’t practice Wednesday as part of the management plan the Jets have for him.
Aaron Glenn said they would talk it over and decide whether Sweat will get in Friday’s game. But Glenn has been adamant about being cautious with players to make sure they’re ready for Week 1.
Sweat’s wry smile and laugh said he’s looking forward to Week 1.
