Takeaways from Wednesday's practice
It was a lighter day. Geno Smith only attempted three passes and didn’t complete any. It was a combination of sloppy and out-of-sync play by the offense and good plays by the defense.
Smith’s three throws weren’t close to being completed. He threw it behind a receiver and threw a long ball to Garrett Wilson, who didn’t seem to know it was coming. The two passes Smith did complete were negated by an offensive penalty and what would have been a sack by Jarvis Brownlee with Will McDonald in there as well.
The defense had two “sacks.” Harrison Phillips wrapped up Cade Klubnik. Dane Belton had a pass break-up. Defensive tackle Jowon Briggs blew up a run play.
Klubnik did connect on all five of his passes and threw two touchdowns in red zone period.
“Practice started really hot for the defense,” Aaron Glenn said. “Those guys were getting after it very well. And then the offense picked it up when we got to the red zone. Something you want to see as a head coach but man you want to make sure you’re always on go no matter what.”
Cade York was the better kicker and could have a slight edge on Jason Sanders for the job. York made all five of his attempts from 34 to 60 yards. Sanders was 4-for-5.
