Two school districts, Westbury and Seaford, and rightly so, just voted down revised budgets, which now results in reduced programs and community paid sports ["Split on school funds," News, June 22].
These are just the first of many districts, in the years to come, that will vote for lesser increases in taxes. Once again, the taxpayers suffer, the students suffer and property values will drop dramatically, while teachers and superintendents are paid lavishly.
Mass exodus has already taken place from Long Island to the Southeast, where taxes are much lower. As the empty-nest baby boomers retire in droves, replaced by families with school-age children, expect more and more program cuts and a further drop scholastically, as the contracts favoring the educators instead of the students are left unchecked.
