Taylor perfect as Kings Park girls top Comsewogue
Lindsay Taylor pitched a five-inning perfect game and struck out all 15 batters she faced as Kings Park beat Comsewogue, 14-0, in League V softball. It was the junior's third perfect game, 12th shutout and seventh no-hitter of the season.
"Her rise, curveball and screwball were working for her," said coach Kim McGinley, whose team improved to 14-1.
Jess Julich was 3-for-4 with three RBIs, Megan McGinley and Marissa Armocida each went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
Bay Shore 4, Whitman 2: Liz Weber hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth as Bay Shore (15-0 League II) overcame a one-run deficit in the inning and took a 4-2 lead. With the Marauders trailing 2-1, Gianna Panariello doubled in Marissa Brightman to tie the score. Weber allowed five hits and struck out 15.
Centereach 2, Smithtown East 1: Jackie Binstock's homer in the top of the sixth gave Centereach (7-7) a 2-1 lead in League III. Roxanne DeCosimo's sacrifice fly had tied the score for Centereach in the fourth. Cassie Martinez allowed five hits and struck out five.East Meadow 2, Mepham 1: Nikki Giocastro drove in Brittany Anghel on a squeeze bunt to give East Meadow (12-1) a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning in AA-I. Lindsay McKillop's RBI single had tied the score at 1 in the third. McKillop pitched a two-hitter with four strikeouts.
Floral Park 1, Plainedge 0: Samantha Giovanniello doubled in Lindsay Trifon in the top of the seventh for Floral Park (13-2) in ABC-I. Giovanniello pitched a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts.
Island Trees 1, Valley Stream South 0: Sam Basile hit a walk-off single with the bases loaded to score Brittany Ciaramitaro in the eighth inning for Island Trees (7-7) in Conference II.St. Anthony's 2, Kellenberg 0: Marilyn Freeman went 3-for-3 with an RBI to lead St. Anthony's (12-0) in CHSAA. Katie Costanzo knocked in the second run with a sacrifice fly in the third. Michelle Carbone allowed six hits in her fifth shutout.
baseballHoly Trinity 3, St. Anthony's 1: Sophomore Alex Robinson threw a three-hitter and had a school-record 17 strikeouts to lead Holy Trinity (8-5) in CHSAA. Robinson struck out the side in the second, third, fourth and seventh innings. In the bottom of the fifth, Peter August and Javy Rodriguez hit back-to-back homers to break a tie at 1.
Mattituck 5, Bayport-Blue Point 4: Yianna Rauseo hit a two-run homer in the fourth to give Mattituck (3-7) a 5-2 lead in League VII. Rauseo went 2-for-3 with two homers and four RBIs. Steve Ascher allowed four hits, one earned run and struck out seven in six innings.
Rocky Point 1, Westhampton 0: Connor Malloy hit an eighth-inning double and scored on an error for Rocky Point (6-4) in League VI.
Garden City 7, South Side 6: Mike Giannone (two RBIs) singled in Scott Conetta to give Garden City (7-6) a 7-6 lead in the fourth inning in A-I. Conetta (2-for-4, homer, three RBIs) tied the score at 6 with an RBI single. Sophomore Rich D'Angelo allowed three hits in 22/3 innings of relief to earn his first varsity win.
MacArthur 9, Massapequa 7: Matt DiBiase tripled in Mario Angieri in the top of the eighth to give MacArthur (11-2) an 8-7 lead in AA-I. Nick McQuail followed with a single. Eddie Vanderka had three RBIs. Massapequa rallied from a 7-0 deficit in the second and tied it on Mike Campbell's single in the sixth.
Glen Cove 2, Plainedge 0: Peter Cappiello threw a one-hitter with a walk and 12 strikeouts to lead Glen Cove (3-10) in A-I. He allowed an infield single in the first inning. Chris Theodorou (2-for-3) doubled in Frank Gaudio to give Glen Cove a 1-0 lead in the fifth.
