Teachers plan to demonstrate tax cap at event featuring Cuomo
Long Island public school members of New York State United Teachers plan to demonstrate when Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo headlines the Suffolk Democratic dinner April 28.
Richard Schaffer, Suffolk Democratic chairman, confirmed that union officials last week informed the party they will not take a $3,000 table as originally planned for the Holbrook fundraiser.
Connetquot union president Tony Felicio said at NYSUT's recent state convention that "not only is it important to send a loud and clear message to Cuomo, but it is just as important to send a loud and clear message to Cuomo's political supporters who will be in attendance." He warned the "2 percent tax cap . . . is going to ultimately kill public education" and candidates "need to know you're either with us or against us . . . period."-- Rick Brand
