Tennessee, Oklahoma women advance
Senior Monica Engelman scored a career-high 27 points as Kansas became only the second No. 12 seed to advance to the round of 16 in the women's NCAA Tournament with a 75-69 upset of fourth-seeded South Carolina last night in the Norfolk Regional in Boulder, Colo.
The Jayhawks (20-13) joined San Francisco in 1996 as the only 12 seeds to reach the Sweet 16. Fourth-seeded South Carolina finished 25-8.
Nebraska 74, Texas A&M 63: Jordan Hooper scored 21 points and Lindsey Moore had 20 points and 10 assists for sixth-seeded Nebraska (25-8) in the Norfolk Regional in College Station, Texas. Texas A & M finished 25-10.
Tenn. 68, Creighton 52: Kamiko Williams scored 15 points for Tennessee in the Oklahoma City Regional in Knoxville, Tenn.
The second-seeded Lady Vols (26-7), who improved to 52-0 in NCAA Tournament games on their home floor, will play at Oklahoma on Sunday.
Alexis Akin-Otiko scored 12 points for No. 10 seed Creighton (25-8).
Oklahoma 85, UCLA 72:Aaryn Ellenberg scored 27 points and Joanna McFarland had 20 points and 16 rebounds for Oklahoma in the Oklahoma City Regional in Dayton, Ohio. Sixth-seeded Oklahoma (24-10) will go to the Sooners' home state for the regional semifinals.
Atonye Nyingifa had 18 points for third-seeded UCLA (26-8).
Georgia 65, Iowa St. 60: Shacobia Barbee scored 20 points, including a key three-pointer with 2:03 left, to lead fourth-seeded Georgia (27-6) in the Spokane Regional in Spokane, Wash. Anna Prins led Iowa State (24-9) with 23 points.
California 82, So. Florida 78: Layshia Clarendon had 27 points to lead No. 2 seed California (30-3) to an overtime win in the Spokane Regional in Lubbock, Texas. South Florida finished 22-11. -- AP
