Minka Kelly set to star in CBS pilot,
Derek Jeter's girlfriend and "Friday Night Lights" alumna Minka Kelly has been tapped as a lead on CBS' comedy pilot "True Love," according to The Hollywood Reporter. The project is an ensemble comedy about four friends in New York who are looking for love. Kelly will play a Midwesterner who is a sweet but strong-willed romantic. Kelly was one of the breakout stars of "FNL," which she left last year as her character on the show, Lyla, graduated from high school. She is reportedly set to marry the Yankees' shortstop in November at Huntington's Oheka Castle.
Gossett Jr. has prostate cancer
Oscar-winning actor Louis Gossett Jr. says he is being treated for prostate cancer, The Associated Press reports. In the announcement yesterday, Gossett says the disease was caught early and he expects to make a full recovery. The actor, 73, says he is going public about the disease because there is not enough emphasis in the African-American community on fighting it with preventive examinations and early treatment.
Lil Wayne sentence delayed for surgery
Rap star Lil Wayne has gotten a temporary reprieve from jail - for dental surgery, AP reports. The Grammy Award-winning rapper's sentencing in a New York gun case was postponed yesterday, because he needs to finish a string of recent surgeries before he goes to jail. Lil Wayne, one of music's biggest sellers and rap's hottest stars, is poised to spend as much as a year in jail under a plea deal, though good behavior could shave that to as little as 8 months. Sentencing now is scheduled for March 2.
