'South Park' creators have Broadway musical
The creators of the cheeky animated TV series "South Park" are taking aim at Broadway, The Associated Press reports. Trey Parker and Matt Stone have written a musical comedy called "The Book of Mormon" that will open on Broadway in March 2011. The two wrote the show's book, music and lyrics, along with Robert Lopez, one of the creators of the Tony-winning "Avenue Q."
Broadway's 'Lombardi' intercepts NFL
Broadway's latest big-name producer: the National Football League. The league will be joining the producing team bringing "Lombardi" to Broadway next season, AP reports. Dan Lauria, who played dad Jack Arnold on TV's "The Wonder Years," will star as legendary football coach Vince Lombardi in the play written by Eric Simonson. Producers Tony Ponturo and Fran Kirmser announced Wednesday the six-character play will open Oct. 21 at Circle in the Square Theatre with previews beginning Sept. 23.
Mel Gibson, girlfriend have split
Mel Gibson and his musician girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva, who have a five-month-old daughter together, have split up, according to Us magazine. In fact, the magazine quotes an anonymous source saying the couple had ended the relationship "months ago." "No one dumped anyone," the source said. "It's all very friendly."
