Pigeons force Kings of Leon to cancel show

The Kings of Leon had to shut down its St. Louis concert unexpectedly after performing just three songs, People magazine reports. The reason? Pooping pigeons. "Jared [Followill, the band's bassist] was hit several times during the first two songs," said band manager Andy Mendelsohn. "It's not only disgusting - it's a toxic health hazard. They really tried to hang in there." The birds apparently were in the rafters of the city's Verizon Amphitheatre and began their attack Friday during the band's opening song, hitting Followill, 23, in the face. "I was hit by pigeons on each of the first three songs," Followill said. A statement from the band said, "We want to apologize to our fans in St. Louis and will come back as soon as we can." The band played in Chicago as scheduled Saturday night. News reports said fans - who apparently were not affected by the pigeons - will receive full refunds, although officials of Verizon Amphitheatre and the concert promoter Live Nation have not commented.

'House's' Laurie to record blues album

"House" star Hugh Laurie has signed a deal with Warner Music Entertainment to record an album of New Orleans-inspired blues, The Associated Press reports. "I am drunk with excitement at this opportunity," Laurie said in a statement. "I know the history of actors making music is a checkered one, but I promise no one will get hurt." On "House," Laurie's character often plays piano and the guitar. According to his record company, Laurie is a predominantly self-taught pianist because, in a very "House"-like move, he had "creative differences" with his childhood teacher. The album is to be produced by Grammy winner Joe Henry.
